The Making of a VideoAmp Legend: Mother’s Day Edition
VideoAmp is made up of some pretty incredible people. We attribute this to our unmatched work ethic, laser focus and commitment to being great every single day. And that’s all true but it’s also important to give credit where credit’s due. For many of us, our quest for greatness started a long time ago, with the help of some very special people — our moms.
To celebrate Mother’s Day, Vampers are sharing some of the wisdom their moms bestowed upon them, helping to shape them into the legends they are today.
Jessica’s mom says: “Always follow your gut”
The Golden Rule has always been the standard to my mom: Treat people the way you want to be treated. Life would be better if everyone followed that rule.

The best piece of advice my mother gave me was, “hard work now, pays off later.” She found a way to weave this into everything we did, whether it was doing your chores right the first time so you didn’t have to redo them (somehow I always ended up having to “practice reloading the dishwasher” again), or in our school work – getting good grades in school would help you get into a better college. A better college would help you get more connections and better internships, which would give you better experience to get your dream job. She even tries to tie it into saving for my retirement – whenever I go out for drinks with friends or buy another Hawaiian shirt. At the end of the day, it boils down to a mentality that you should just do something right the first time, giving it your best effort. This has definitely been a big part of shaping my work style, habits and mentality and has helped me get to where I am in my life now.

Vivian’s mom says: “Do what you say you’ll do”
Jessica’s mom says: “Prepare for your own life, to take care of yourself as a strong independent woman and not be dependent on anyone else”
A young Rachel’s poem to her mom on Mother’s Day (circa 1993): “You help me when I fall down, you pick me up off of the ground. I give you all the love I have, because of you I have a path”
When I was growing up, as my brothers and I headed out to the bus stop, she always told us to “be nice to people without any friends”. Sounded silly at the time and I’m sure we rolled our eyes, but I think she wanted us to think before speaking/acting and look out for others. Now, with a daughter of my own, I still try to pass this advice on. Compassion is something we all need, especially now, and it has translated to the way I approach my colleagues and clients, essential workers and neighbors. It’s proven to be timeless advice.
